Among His Signs is this, that He sends the Winds, as heralds of Glad Tidings, giving you a taste of His (Grace and) Mercy,- that the ships may sail (majestically) by His Command and that ye may seek of His Bounty: in order that ye may be grateful. (Surah Ar-Rum, 46)

What did Students Do?

Students drew directions, EAST, WEST, NORTH and SOUTH on the paper plates. They used the paper plate as the base of the wind vane. They filled their cups with sand, pebbles and glued it to the plates. They poked a sharpened pencil through the centre of containers with the eraser on top.

They cut a broad triangle and a square about 3 inches across using chart paper and attached on either side of the straw using glue. They attached straw with the pencil using common pin. Then straw with arrow and square moved freely. They placed their wind vanes outside using a compass to tell the directions shown on their plates with the compass and observed the direction of the wind.

What did they learn?

Students learned to make Wind Van, an instrument to determine the direction of the wind. They observed the direction of wind using their wind vanes, it was NORTH to SOUTH.

How did the activity go?

They worked in small groups and were able to make their wind vanes within the given time. They displayed it outside near the stage and observed the direction of the wind. They were allowed to take their wind vanes home and use those.
